Dr. Taggart Gauvain earned his undergraduate degree at St. Edward’s University in Austin and his medical degree at UT Health San Antonio Medical School. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) and a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at The Foundation for Orthopedic, Athletic and Reconstructive Research in Houston. In practice since 2010, Dr. Gauvain is board certified in orthopedic surgery. One of the main challenges in ankle replacement is correction of any deformities in the operative limb. Deformity can be found proximal and distal to the ankle joint as well as in the ankle joint. There are static and dynamic deformities that can create unbalanced ankle joints causing early and often catastrophic failure.
